Rented a VPS

Has anyone here rented a VPS just to mess around with hosting personal stuff or learning Linux? I’m wondering if it’s overkill or actually worth it for a beginner trying to get some hands-on experience.

I tried rent vps hosting at vikhost.com mainly to learn Linux and try to host a few personal projects. It's definitely not a bad idea if you're serious about getting hands-on. Of course, there's a learning curve, but nothing beats having your own server where you can break something and fix it again. Besides, it's cheaper than you expect. For beginners, it's a big step beyond tutorials - in my opinion, hands-on experience is the best teacher.
